Paralegals, (sometimes called Legal Assistants), are an essential and vital part of any legal team. The profession is projected to grow over 21% through 2012.*
Among other tasks, a legal assistant may: interview clients; draft pleadings and other documents; carry on legal research, both conventional and computer aided; research public records; prepare discovery requests and responses; schedule depositions and prepare notices and subpoenas; summarize depositions and other discovery responses; coordinate and manage documents production; locate and interview witnesses; organize pleadings, trial exhibits, and other documents; prepare witness and exhibit lists; prepare trial notebooks; prepare for the attendance of witnesses at trial; and assist lawyers at trial.

Program Description
Students will study and become adept in legal research, writing analysis, the interviewing of clients and witnesses, fact gathering, summarizing trial evidence, estate administration, and property transfer. Students will also learn to form corporations and partnerships, conduct and participate in real estate closings, draft leases, examine mortgages, handle landlord/tenant relations, draft contracts, partake of product liability and personal injury cases, as well as participate in other civil and criminal cases.
Students who successfully complete an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies are eligible to take the Certified Legal Assistant Examination through the National Association of Legal Assistants.
